This 2024 Mini Cooper S came to us with less than 1000 miles on it! The owners wanted our Ceramic Pro Silver Package like we did to their jeep last year! This 5 Year package includes ceramic protection for the paint, trim, plastics, glass, lights and wheels! That pearl white looks good right? That’s because of the paint correction it received before we sealed it in with ceramic to keep it looking that way! Why did a new car need paint correction? Its because of the dealership! Most dealerships regardless of the brand hire first time or entry level detailers. Dealership details are courtesy services and to keep the cost low to the dealership, cheap products, towel’s , and tools are used in combination with inexperienced help to make it worth while. Cars like this Mini Cooper come from over seas, then ride on trains and trucks across the country all the way to the dealership. These cars typically have some form of plastic wrap or tape on them to prevent damage during transport. In this Mini’s case the glue from the wrap was still stuck all over the car! The dealership also “prepped” it with a detail and scratched all the soft piano black and fresh paint. We corrected all of this so this new Mini actually looks new! This 2021 Ferrari F8 Tributo is all ready for winter storage and prepared for next season! This customer wanted to protect their investment the right way so they brought it to us! The primary complaint was swirl marks and scratches caused by the dealership when it first arrived from Italy. We corrected all the markings and made it look the way it should! This 2011 Mercedes-Benz E550 Cabriolet came in needing some scratch removal. The customer stated he had small groupings of scratches in several spots around the vehicle he wanted fixed. Together we determined the best way to make it look better was to do a one step paint correction. This way all his problem areas would be addressed as well as bring back shine to the whole vehicle instead of a few spots. We also mixed up touch up paint and applied it to various stone chips around the vehicle. Once we got the car looking significantly better, we treated this e class to our Ceramic Pro Silver package! This 5 year package is our most popular one! It includes one layer of a strong ceramic base coat and one layer of a very glossy, hydrophobic top coat. After repairing the bedside we refinished the panel and new flare in Chrysler black diamond using our waterborne paint system. We have color ! These 55 Pontiac panels came to us in rough shape although Having a previous restoration. We started over on these removing the existing paint and starting with a new epoxy base to build off of. Having the metal sealed and protected we did some filler work to smooth everything out followed by another round of sand able epoxy. Afterwards we sprayed sealer, gm black basecoat, and 4 coats of ppg high solids clear coat. We will give these panels time to cure before wet sanding and polishing. We had fun working on this 1991 Nissan Figaro! It came in because the window would no longer roll up and finding someone that will work on a 32 year old imported kei car in Door County can be troublesome. We found out that when the auto down switch was pressed there was no stop at the bottom of the gear anymore for raising the window up and down allowing the window to run off the end of its track and fall loosely into the door. We fabricated a stop on the gear, reassembled the door and the problem was resolved! We were also asked if we could install an optional parking wand to the passenger side front corner. This was supposed to help the driver locate the front corner of the car in tight spaces. This 1978 Porsche 911 SC was a blast to have at the shop! It looks good now but what did we have to do to get it there? Lets talk about it. When it comes to paint correction, the phrase “no room for error” couldn’t be any more accurate. From steel to surface, most finishes are as thin or thinner than a sheet of paper. That’s including your primer, color and clear coat. In this Porsche's case, it’s single stage paint. Than means there is no clear coat, only color! Every time you make any abrasive contact with the surface, you are removing color from the car, and getting one step closer to removing the material entirely. This is where the phrase “burned through” came from. A lot of people and detailers will “buff” cars and without the proper skillset they can do more damage than good. This Porsche is still sporting the paint it left the factory with back in 1977. In its life its been polished presumably many times. Where does that get us? The paint on the vehicle is becoming thinner and thinner and eventually if you get thin enough you will start to burn through. The layer beneath the color will start to show through leaving spots with no color. The only solution to this is to repaint, and try getting a match on a nearly 50 year old paint job. Not only would this decrease the value of the vehicle, it would never have the same look as that O.E.M. finish that is perfectly age matched to the rest of the vehicle. Final blocking for this old Pontiac. Here’s a few takeaways: - we are using ppg vp2050 high build epoxy as our starting point to seal the panel then doing any filler work over the top. Priming again with the same vp2050. One product start to finish with less shrinkage compared to a normal high build 2k primer. - Weighing filler. We use an old paint scale to weigh our filler so it’s a consistent mix every time. - linear blocking tools. These new acrylic blocks make sanding so much easier compared to old style blocks and foam blocks. They cut straight and consistent. - Guide coat. Using guide coat helps identify our sanding scratches as we work through the different grits of sand paper. Starting with 180 initial cut and finishing with 600 wet before paint. To start we had paintless dent removal performed to remove all the minor dings and small dents from the exterior without needing to repaint anything! Look at this fun project we just finished! This 85 Toyota Celica gts came to us pink! This is an old single stage repaint that had oxidized leaving the car faded and in need of intervention. We started by doing a heavy decontamination wash to remove all the dirt and debris from the paint. Then we went after the paint very carefully to remove the haze from the finish, leaving it the color it was supposed to be! To help protect the paint we put on our ceramic pro bronze package to reduce the chance of oxidation during the life of the coating! All ready for summer! This 1992 Corvette ZR-1 needed a major reset after sitting the majority of its life and being exposed to the hot temperatures of the west coast! To start it got a 3 step paint correction to remove swirls, scratches, water spots, bug etching, and other various smudges and scuffs. Once the paint was corrected, it was time for protection. To start we applied Ceramic Pro Kavaca to the nose cone, a high tech, self healing and ceramic coated PPF that will repel stone chips, bugs and act as an invisible shield for anything underneath it all while preserving the stock appearance of the vehicle. For the remainder of the car, we covered it in our silver package! This includes a base and top layer of ceramic coating for the painted surfaces and Kavaca PPF, the wheels and calipers, all the trim, and all the glass! But we didn’t stop there, The engine, engine bay, aluminum suspension components, shock absorbers, interior panels, carpets and exhausts tips all got ceramic coated to help clean and protect well into the future! We work on classics too! This 1970 Datsun 240z needed a good reset. The owner was looking to clean it up and his wish came true! We started by giving it a decon wash as the customer stated it had a layer or “dirt” stuck to the paint. With the professional use of certain chemicals and procedures we were able to remove everything that was not paint, from the paint leaving it clean as the day it left the paint booth. -1980 Bmw 635 Csi- We recently received an inquiry about painting a NOS bmw valance. Upon inspection we found the part to have been previously primed with plenty of orange peel and runs into the vents. Our solution: block sand the primer using @kxkdynamics mini sanding blocks with @linear_blocking_tools 600 grit wet sanding paper.
